Biography

It was in the Fall of 2001 that the idea for ZOA was first placed on the hearts of three members of ZOA. Ben, Sam, Stan, and later on Joe, were roommates and would constantly share with each other their sincere desire to start a worship band together.

Though none of them sought out the opportunity, God placed the burden on a fifth member- Binu Scariah. After attending Pastor Bell's church in Philadelphia, Binu was compelled by the call of the Lord to do "something" for Him. Confirmation set in when Binu first approached Ben, Sam, and Stan and shared his vision for the possibilities God was laying before them.

It would be a year later before the band would see the first fruits of serving Him in this way. In October 2002, they were given the first opportunity to lead worship at a youth retreat. The presence of God filled that place, and the band was inspired and encouraged as they were able to humble themselves before the Lord and bless Him with the talents He had given them.

The sight of kids worshipping and crying, jumping and clapping, shouting and dancing all for the joy of the Lord ministered heavily to the hearts of the band and they were convinced that the Lord was calling them to use music to impact the spiritual lives of others.

After much prayer, the band was formulated, and the name ZOA was conceived. The band now consists of Binu, Stan, Danny, Sam, and Joe. These five dedicated themselves to taking a step of faith and serving the Lord through music and worship.

Today, the vision of ZOA remains the same--
● A strong passion and desire to see people immersed in the presence of God through song.
● A desire to see people come to the presence of God with broken and repentful hearts and then to be empowered by the Holy Spirit.
● To see people experience the love of Christ for the first time in their lives. Zoa's greatest desire is to share the amazing love of Jesus they have experienced and make it equally contagious to others.

The name ZOA comes from Revelations 4:6-9:
"6 and before the throne there was something like a sea of glass, like crystal; and in the center and around the throne, four living creatures full of eyes in front and behind. 7 The  first creature was like a lion, and the second creature like a calf, and the third creature had a face like that of a man, and the fourth creature was like a flying eagle.

8 And the four living creatures, each one of them having six  wings, are full of eyes around and within; and day and night they do not cease to say, "HOLY, HOLY, HOLY is THE LORD GOD, THE ALMIGHTY, WHO WAS AND WHO IS AND WHO IS TO COME." 9 And when the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, to Him who lives forever and ever,..."

The 4 creatures were referred to as ZOA which in Greek means "living creatures". The band, ZOA, desires to embody the concept of day and night, 24/7 worship - being living people of worship 24 hours a day, seven days a week!
